Directors
The cinema is run by a Board of Directors, all of whom are volunteers
who give freely of their time and expertise. New directors are normally invited onto the
Board if they express an interest in the community business and the cinema. Directors are
then officially elected every year at the Annual General Meeting by the members of Campbeltown
Community Business.
The Board meets once a month in the Picture House office. There are currently seven directors
but there is always room for new blood and skills. If you are interested, the Board would be
delighted to invite you along to a meeting to see what is involved in being a director. Note
that you must be a member of the community business to be a director.

Jane Mayo (Chair)
Jane is enjoying a busy life in so-called retirement. She started work in publishing in
the 1960s with the Guinness Book of Records before taking a break to get married and bring
up three children. She then had some twenty years at the sharp end of educational publishing.
She brings her excellent organisational and diplomatic skills to the challenging position of
Chairman. Her eldest son is a bit of a 'film buff', and he helps keeps her straight on this
aspect of the task.

Harvard Davis (Vice Chair)
Harvard was born in Aberdeen but grew up in Glasgow. He served in the Royal Navy as a Stores
Accountant from 1964 - 1975 when he left and moved to Campbeltown. He married Una (Morrison) in 1977.
After working for John Carmichael at Kintyre Marine Services for a few years he left to work for
British Aerospace in Saudi Arabia in support of the Royal Saudi Air Force.
He thinks that the Picture House in Campbeltown is not only a great historical building but a
landmark within the town which should be preserved and improved to provide the unique experience
of 'Going to the Pictures'.

John McKerral
John is a retired schoolteacher and was a regular attender
at both the Picture House and the Rex in the days when cinema-going was
still very popular. His keen interest in film led to him helping out in
the projection rooms of both cinemas and he has many stories of his times
there.
He still prefers film entertainment over television and as a member of
the board (he joined in 1991), he helps with the selection of films and
especially of First Monday presentations.

David Mayo
David was born in Campbeltown and has recently taken over his maternal grandmother's home here
in the town. He had a seafaring career first in the Royal Navy as a submariner and then in the
offshore oil and gas industry, organising and managing underwater work.
In his spare time over the past six or seven years David has been researching wartime Campbeltown,
and he would be grateful for the odd prod or two towards publishing his findings. Meanwhile he
is particularly interested in the fabric of the historic Picture House and ensuring its sound future.

Joanna Campbell
Joanna came to live in Campbeltown in 1971 at the age of 16, when her father was posted to
R.A.F Machrihanish. She met and married a local boy and has lived there ever since. She became involved
in the Cinema when Russell Carroll became Manager in the year 2000. He asked if she would help him out
for a couple of weeks. Seven years on she is still there, now as Assistant Manager and Second Projectionist.
Joanna loves working in The Picture House and thinks it is a great asset to the town but thinks it
is a pity that it is not always used by the people of the town as it should be.

Russell Carroll
Russell was brought up in Campbeltown and on leaving
school, trained as an electrician with local company, Kintyre Farmers.
He left to join Aero Technicians where he worked on all aspects of aircraft
electrics before moving to join McKinlay and Blair. There, he worked first
on domestic electrics and then at the local shipyard.
He first became involved with the Picture House in 1989 and worked on
and off there until in 2000, when he took over the running of it full-time.
His love of the cinema led to him becoming a director of the Community
Business in 2004.

Malcolm McDonald
Malcolm is a livestock farmer and part-time IT tutor with Argyll College. He has a hill farm
just outside Tayinloan and looks after a flock of 400 breeding ewes and a small herd of cattle
composed mainly of Shorthorns and Highlanders. He is married with two daughters.
He joined the Board of Directors in 2006 and has since put his IT skills to good use by
developing this website for the cinema. He feels strongly that the Picture House - such an important
part of local history - should continue to operate as a cinema and be available for future
generations.
